Rainy Day Art Lovers Tour
There are days when it’s difficult to know what to do in Adelaide, particularly in wintery wet weather, but Greenbanks Tours has just the answer. We pick you up from your accommodation in the City after breakfast and, in no time at all, have you up and over 2000 ft above sea level into the beautifully cool and often damp Adelaide Hills.
Our first experience is the warmth of The Blacksmiths Café in Hahndorf for morning tea or coffee with scones, jam and cream on the side. It will surely have you forget the temperatures outside!
From here we drive on to Hans Heysens ‘The Cedars’ Gallery just outside of Hahndorf to view the works and tour the home, studio and gallery of arguably Australia’s two best known landscape and still life artists of the 20th century.
Lunch is in the warmth of Udder Delights where you will be treated to an Udder Delights Cheese Fondue with hot freshly baked crusty ciabatta rolls. The coffee and a glass of wine are complementary too.
Then it’s back to the Hahndorf Academy to immerse you in the heritage and visual arts that make Hahndorf so unique. Nic’s Old Uncle Traugott Boehm built the Hahndorf Academy in 1857 and he will explain much of the history of the building for you.
Next, we take you to the Aboriginal Art House to view authentic contemporary Aboriginal art from the Central and Western Deserts of Australia. This is the largest Aboriginal Art gallery in the region showcasing hundreds of paintings across four showrooms. The original and highly detailed works will fascinate you and maybe inspire you to travel out to their origins someday.
A day in the Adelaide Hills would not be complete without a little wine-tasting and we take you to Somerled Wines (Thurs – Mon) or Hahndorf Hill Wines (Tue & Wed) two exceptional and very different cellar door experiences. Whether its outstanding quality old favorites like Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz that take your fancy or exciting new varieties such as Blaufrankisch or Gruner Veltliner, you will take home with you some wonderful flavors and maybe a bottle or two.
