Adelaide Hills Natural & Unique Gardens

Walk 4 exquisite Adelaide hills gardens with me, learn and see the stories that make Hahndorf a unique Australian iconic town. I share our “big backyard” with you.

Just 30 minutes drive from the Adelaide CBD with a coffee in hand, we climb up the range to the spectacular Mt Lofty Botanic gardens where you will be guided through the stunning mix of native and imported species.

Next, we stop off at “The Cedars”, home of the Heysen gallery. Sir Hans Heysen (1877 – 1968) was arguably Australia’s most noted landscape artist and this garden and gallery, amongst others, remain his legacy. See a large range of prints and originals and take a stroll through the rambling garden, truly a delight in every season.

In Hahndorf, we lay out a gourmet picnic lunch just for you. You will have a 2 hour opportunity to explore historic Hahndorf with Nic as your guide, or linger longer as you please. Nic will share his own families’ history in the town dating back to 1839 when his great-great-great grandfather and mother migrated from Prussia to begin a new life as farmers and builders here.

A short drive from Hahndorf, we visit Kidman Flowers protea farm at Balhannah. Here the owners Des & Angie Kidman will show you the extensive varieties of their commercial flowers that are in bloom. Angie will show you how you can arrange an exquisite range of their home grown flowers.

A Natural Garden Tour wouldn’t be complete without a look at a truly native garden. Well, as close as we can find to what the Australian bush was like before white settlement. We have the choice of visiting Mylor Conservation Park, Mt George Conservation Park or Scott Creek Conservation Park depending on weather and time availability. All are within 45 minutes of Adelaide’s CBD yet you won’t believe how quiet (apart from the birds) and serene these native garden are.

Late in the afternoon, we head back down the range to deliver you to your Adelaide accommodation by approximately 5.00.
